LP/CD Aftermath Music MC Flowing Downwards Originally released in 1996 on Radiation Records (a Nuclear Blas label), Purgatory's Reign is a brilliant death/doom album now available on CD format once again. Used prices of this album can fetch a nice sum and rightfully so. Songs from this album were originally intended for the Divine Eve debut full-length after Xan Hammack relocated to California from Texas. He enlisted the help of Rhett Davis (Gravehill, Morgion) to complete the lineup on drums. The output is a pure, underrated classic. A true must-own. Vinyl version will be coming soon via Dark Descent Records. Layout carefully recreated from the original and the material has been carefully remastered by Ted Tringo at The Ancient Way Mastering. www.darkdescentrecords.com INVICTUS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present DEATHWARDS striking debut demo, Towards Death, to be released on cassette 8/6/18.
DEATHWARDS formed in 2017, comprising veterans of the metal underground, and within five months had recorded their very first demo. As aptly titled as their moniker, DEATHWARDS 'Towards Death' is a timeless, trend-bucking slab of thrashing Metal of Death. Across the five furious-yet-finessed songs here, the band conjoin the primal essence of '80s Slayer, Slaughter Lord, Van Drunen-era Pestilence, and Voivod's early work, but tweak it with a more technical aspect ala Sindrome, Sadus, and Obliveon. It's a classic-yet-fresh blend between influences and authentic ideas, instead of mere copycat-ism or rote rehashing of older, better ideas. Altogether, including a reverential cover of Infernal Majesty's "Overlord", DEATHWARDS opening salvo is as furious as it is catchy, iron-clad in its approach yet bespeaking more development to come. One of the visionaries of the mid-1990’s Norwegian Black Metal evolution, DHG are widely hailed as masters of dark and psychotic Psychedelic-tinged extremity. The long out of print ‘Satanic Art’ release is considered a significant turning point for the band, introducing a more frenzied and twisted style of composition. This edition includes two bonus tracks, Black Treasure and an alternate rendition of Symptom. It is also presented officially for the first time on vinyl.
On the fateful day of June 6th, LARVAL PRODUCTIONS will release JYOTISAVEDANGA's highly anticipated debut album, Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum.
JYOTISAVEDANGA are a pan-international entity featuring guitarist Sadist from Indian black/grind/noise iconoclasts Tetragrammacide; H. from Russia's esteemed Sickrites on synths, noise, and effects; AR, from emerging Kolkata cult Banish, on vocals; and prolific Ukrainian drummer Dimitry Kim (Sickrites, Goatpsalm, Do Skonu et. al.). While war metal undoubtedly forms the foundation of JYOTISAVEDANGA's multi-dimensional attack, it is but a mere tool to be wielded - and, more suitably, malformed. For Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum is indeed a warp continuum sucking vortex-ward the most diseased and depraved decibels lurking within the all-too-often mutually exclusive scenes of black metal and power electronics, splicing various DNA and mincing its residual strains. As such, the album is more accurately an experience rather than an "album" per se; worlds open up, and then are destroyed. To experience Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum is to literally be devastated: there is no escape, and there is no mercy. Those of hardier constitutions will still be largely unprepared for the overwhelming onslaught JYOTISAVEDANGA so effortlessly create. The album comprises six central tracks in a time-evaporating 29 minutes, but when the portals to one's pain threshold have been freely opened, that length can seem both far longer and far shorter than anticipated, for a wealth of subtle, studiously exacted details are woven dynamically into Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum's very fabric. To say the album is "dense" is as vast an understatement as the record itself. And yet, despite this very tangible (and very threatening) physicality, Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum is not all crude ultraviolence for its own sake. JYOTISAVEDANGA are named after Vedāṅga Jyotiṣa, one of the earliest known Indian texts on astronomy and astrology, and their lyricism - and overall aesthetic aims, for that matter - are steeped in the meeting point between the two as well as the latent occultism underpinning such a conjunction. This much was at least etched into their debut demo from 2016, Cannibal Coronal Mass Ejections, but has reached critical mass on their full-length debut album. But to pull the veil back too far would be to reveal too much of the trio's inner workings, and it's often best to allow the alchemy to do what it may... Although undoubtedly unique in the wider extreme music landscape, it should come as no surprise that JYOTISAVEDANGA have found a suitable aesthetic/ideological home at LARVAL PRODUCTIONS, for the label has also recently fostered the blitzed-senses oblivion of TSALAL and an early split release by new-noise gods Tetragrammacide, and there's more cruelty to come. In the meantime, there is only the beginning - and the very real END - to Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum. Black metal and noise may be inching ever close together anno 2018, but JYOTISAVEDANGA are here to obliterate all hope. One continuum, forever circular: total blackout, ultimate whiteout. Frequency death ad infinitum...ad nauseum.
BLOOD HARVEST RECORDS and HELTER SKELTER PRODUCTIONS (distributed & marketed by Regain Records) are proud to present TAPHOS' highly anticipated debut album, "Come Ethereal Somberness", on LP/CD/MC/DIGITAL, which will be released on June 8th 2018.
Hot on the heels of BLOOD HARVEST's compilation of the band's first two recordings as Demo MMXVI & 7" EP MMXVII, garnering widespread acclaim and heightening anticipation for their first full-length, at last arrives TAPHOS' Come Ethereal Somberness. As a debut LP, Come Ethereal Somberness does everything it should: stay consistent to a band's sound established on their demos whilst pointing toward new avenues. Here, TAPHOS do both, and then some. Hailing from the same Danish scene as Undergang and Phrenelith, TAPHOS create a classic - and classically gutted - style of Metal of Death. Their first recording, Demo MMXVI, possessed a darkly thrashing sound highly reminiscent of turn-of-the-'90s death metal on both sides of the Atlantic, as resolutely Scandinavian as it was American, its filthy propulsion as palatably fresh as it was authentically ancient. On the subsequent two-song EP, TAPHOS' sound becomes more world-eating, their songwriting aims more epic whilst not losing the raw fury of their beginnings. Now, with Come Ethereal Somberness, they synthesize the two stylistic shifts into something both berzerker and epic, manic and finessed in equal measures. Indeed, TAPHOS are firing on all songwriting cylinders here, as the energy literally bursts off the charts but retains a sense of composure and daresay class rarely scene in full-blooded death metal. Hammering and hideous yet nevertheless invoking a clarity that never castrates their attack, the quartet render each of these seven central compositions (bookended by moody instrumentals) a story unto itself. Hell, the titles themselves tell that story - "Ocular Blackness", "Insidious Gyres" and the equally telltale "Thrive in Upheaval" and "Impending Peril" among them - and that story is horrific. New nightmares are here, then, and TAPHOS will be taking them on the road with a full European tour this May alongside Swedish comrades Degial. Until then, as its title ominously proclaims, Come Ethereal Somberness!
