This week, Oslo’s eerie punks Okkultokrati will unveil the unruly Raspberry Dawn -- their fourth full-length and their Southern Lord debut.
While paying homage to their native 1990s black metal heritage, the cinematic synth/goth rock of the prior decade, and the raging early punk movement ahead of that, Okkultokrati still manages to create sincerely original and infectious music through every bar of Raspberry Dawn, resulting in a starkly raw and original sounding album. On Raspberry Dawn, Okkultokrati thrusts the heretic rock and roll that they have cultivated since their 2008 inception into more extraordinary situations. Classic ‘70s riffing, snotty punk, and brash, old-school metal are inventively mixed with pulses and spikes of darkwave and ice cold, psychedelic repetition. They execute these infectious tunes effortlessly, playing with the attitude they retained from their roots in rural hard rock attitude, and busting a propulsive stomp that aligns them closer to the clarity of recordings from decades past, also exemplified by spring reverb twangs that ping across the mix like rubber bands. With organ touches, violent slaps of static, and blown out sci-fi overtures backed by the band’s preexisting taste for the curious and the macabre, amping-up both the drama and the feel-good extremes that they have always lathered their sound in, Raspberry Dawn is weird, wired, and quite possibly the holy grail for those looking for radical rock reinvention and new sensations in the current era. Raspberry Dawn sees release on CD and all digital formats via Southern Lord this Friday, September 30th; the vinyl will follow in the next few weeks. www.facebook.com/okkultokrati www.okkultokrati.bandcamp.com www.okkultokrati.blogspot.com www.southernlord.com DRINK FROM THE WELL OF UNKNOWING // TRAVERSE THE SPHERES OF OBLIVION --- 'Transmutation Of Wounds' offers an elegant lesson on order in chaos; an MLP of nightmarish black metal with layers upon layers of haunted audial terror.
Program repeats on both sides. Co-released by Fallen Empire Records and Terratur Possessions. LVTHN’s 'Eradication of Nescience' is finally being revealed in its intended format: a 12" gatefold vinyl with a full sized 12 page booklet. First copies will be accompanied by a consecrated necromantic incense, produced in conspiracy with Occult Sabbath & Ritus. The incense is to be burned on a coal while experiencing the sonic adversarialism of 'Eradication of Nescience'. The incense contains tobacco, myrrh, sandalwood, dragon’s blood, dammar, wormwood, sulphur and powdered human bone. Co-released by Amor Fati Productions and Fallen Empire Records. Wings Of Tzinacan is the impending new full-length from German, occult doom rock rock collective ALBEZ DUZ. Emerging from the dark corners of Berlin in 2006, ALBEZ DUZ -- old High German for "swan" (Albex) and "noisiness" or "rush" "Duz" - was forged by Eugen "Impurus" Herbst initially as a one-man side project. The band's ominous debut was recorded in 2009 with singer Lars Kaeding. Following Kaeding's death however, the band stepped into the shadows for the next three years. With a lingering fire and purpose, Herbst continued to write for ALBEZ DUZ and, after an exhaustive search, crossed paths with Alfonso Brito whose voice seemed destined for the project. In September 2014, the duo brought the band's second album The Coming Of Mictlan to life via Iron Bonehead Records and Archaic Sound. They began performing live shortly after. ALBEZ DUZ recently completed its third full-length album, the thundering Wings Of Tzinacan, at The Source Studios Munich with producer and audio engineer Michael Zech (Secrets Of The Moon, Triptykon, Ascension etc.) at the helm. Guitarist Julia Neuman has joined their ranks, solidifying the band as an unstoppable power trio. Wings Of Tzinacan will see release via Listenable Records in Europe on October 21st, 2016 followed by a North American release of October 28th, 2016. http://www.facebook.com/albezduz
