At long last, DENOUNCEMENT PYRE are about to unchain their highly anticipated third album, Black Sun Unbound. Three years have passed since the release of their critically acclaimed Almighty Arcanum, which saw these long-running Aussie tyrants evolving well beyond their blackthrashing beginnings and locate a near-perfect balance between aggression and atmosphere. With Black Sun Unbound,
DENOUNCEMENT PYRE have perhaps found the balance - between not only aggression and atmosphere, but passion and poison, power and patience, sheer vengeful violence and spiraling night-sky melodicism - in the process delivering a potently BLACK METAL record which emphasizes both titular elements of that genre. In fact, the album title itself bespeaks the brilliance brimming from the band here, as each of these ten tracks spills forth a blinding sensation of absolute occult energy, each distinct track distilled into a greater, wholly diabolical totality. Further evidence of such is compounded by the song titles, as well: among them, "World Encircler," "Transform the Aether," "Deathless Dreaming," and the telltale "Revere the Pyre." Fittingly, the production is clear and cutting without sacrificing an ounce of grit on which DENOUNCEMENT PYRE have built their throne these past 13 years. With the power-trio set to perform their first North American live ritual at this year's Maryland Deathfest, there's no better time to behold Black Sun Unbound!
HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present a timely collection of KERASPHORUS' two EPs, simply titled Kerasphorus, on both vinyl LP and CD formats. Originally existing between 2009 and 2011, KERASPHORUS combined the razor-throated doctrines of P. Helmkamp (Angelcorpse, Order From Chaos), the savage attack of J. Read (Revenge, Conqueror), and the esoteric manifestations and conjurations of B. Wolaniuk, altogether enacting a violent occult prophecy of supreme bestial art. In a short amount of time, the band released two EPs through Nuclear War Now! Productions - Cloven Hooves at the Holocaust Dawn in 2010 and Necronaut the following year - that both immediately caused a stir in the metal underground. With an overwhelming gnarliness buttressing a forever-twisting attack of angularity, it was easy to see why both EPs caused that stir...and then the band ceased to be. However, KERASPHORUS re-formed in 2015 and began playing select shows, and with an exclusive appearance slated for HELLS HEADBASH PART 3 this year, KERASPHORUS' entire recorded oeuvre to date has been collected on Kerasphorus, making for a 31-minute slaughter of cosmic might and dread frequency. The cloven hooves have sounded once again...
Today, Iron Bonehead Productions, in conspiracy with Nuclear War Now! Productions, sets December 9th as the international release date for Sacricifio's highly anticipated debut album, Guerra Eterna. Hailing from Spain, Sacrificio caused a stir in the underground with the release of their self-titled mini-album in 2014, which was also jointly released by Iron Bonehead and Nuclear War Now! Chained in conservationism as a strict principle, the trio raised the banner of black metal's first generation and reinvigorated its standards with Sacrificio. But now, with Guerra Eterna, these true warriors of the occult have eclipsed that feat by creating a humid mass of idiosyncratic, eldritch energy: a soundfield/headspace fully unified, a statement of steely, blood-drenched intent.
Like its debut short-length predecessor, Sacrificio's Guerra Eterna bristles and brims with the same strange intensity that earmarked the most unexpected and darkest latitudes of Columbia, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary in ancient times. Verily, it is BLACK METAL, vociferously and vigorously, without parentheticals or qualifiers or other weakening aspects of nowadays "black metal." And yet, throughout its staunch songwriting and more strident execution, Guerra Eterna finds Sacrificio in an advanced state of evolution, even if that "evolution" is inversely a sort of devolution, shackled as they are to the swirling scuzz that equally nods to the pioneering works of early deathrash legends and the contemporaneous bestiality of elder South American climes. Further, the production on the album is even more rounded and robust than the mini-album: as ever utilizing supposedly "arcane" methods of tube distortion and tape compression, it reveals aggression and mystery equally in a more pronounced manner. Warriors summon to the bugle sound of death marches and bloodshed, intoning anthems of a timeless black metal apocalypse. Fierceness of colossal might unbounded, throughout barbarous aeons of atrocious warfare. Devastation and misery overrule for eternity. Only the dead will see the end of war...this is the sound of Sacrificio's Guerra Eterna. Those who missed the great Black Metal compilation “Vinnum Dei Satanas – The Wine of Satan” on vinyl can have now a second chance. One of the strangest bands to emerge from Finland, ever, Oksennus play their death metal like the gods are said to play at being human. And on Sokea Idiootti, their second proper full length, but their seventh release overall, they’ve reached a level where KK, OK, and VP can now actively torment their listener, while simultaneously, and surreptitiously rewarding him—without his even realizing it. He only knows that he cannot stop listening. The bass guitar is like a gadfly not so much buzzing in your ear as reciting Kafka. Meanwhile, the vocals never abandon their monstrous depths, no matter where the instruments find themselves. So, too, the guitars and drums stay locked in like the cranial screws of halo traction. As strange and ayahuasca-visionary as Sokea Idiootti gets, it remains death metal. And that alone is remarkable.
Out Now / 150 Copies / Pro Tapes - Pro Covers Iron Bonehead Productions sets December 9th as the international release date for Venefixion's highly anticipated new mini-album, 'Armorican Deathrites'. A mere year ago, Iron Bonehead introduced these French death metal upstarts with their Defixio demo. One of the most electric bands the label's come across in recent times, Venefixion are heaving and hulking, monstrous and miasmic, barbaric and blackened, but all bristling with an elusive X-factor: not surprisingly, Defixio goes on to be a widely celebrated demo in the underground and above. Alas, time has come for the quartet's next strike, and it bears the title Armorican Deathrites. Set to be released on 12" vinyl and with the CD version adding Defixio as a bonus, Armorican Deathrites sees Venefixion in full blossom. Still deadly committed to the Metal of Death, the Venefixion we witness across the four tracks comprising these Armorican Deathrites is an even more rabid and red-eyed beast, fiercer and more feral, and yet already exhibiting a confidence and finesse - dare we say "maturity"? - well beyond their rather young years. From the very first few seconds, Armorican Deathrites explodes with an excitement that's tantamount to a pestilent fury; from there, it mangles the mind and body with a malevolence that's absolutely addicting. For Venefixion, for all their forward-moving mass, are songwriters above all, and their songwriting strengths have been upratcheted here, twisting terms like "traditional" death metal beyond the pejorative sense of "retro" and into a realm of timelessness, where the early, pioneering works of Morbid Angel, Repulsion, and Autopsy lay. It's an exceedingly fresh stench of DEATH, and it penetrates the nostrils and rots the brain...and all you can do is submit to the pustulent possession of Venefixion's Armorican Deathrites. A collector's dream come true, Traditional Doom Cult contains two rare and unreleased tracks from Darkthrone's Fenriz under the Isengard banner, the iconic solo project of Darkthrone's Fenriz, which was active from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. Tracks include The Light - an early song recorded in 1989 - and The Fright from the early 1990s. Both tracks bring to mind the doom-laden grooves (draped in darkness!) present on Isengard's debut release, Vinterskugge. The recordings were made at the legendary Necrohell studios with Fenriz responsible for all instruments and vocals. Traditional Doom Cult contains liner notes from Fenriz explaining the background to the tracks. 7" vinyl release including inner sleeve. |
